Indonesian students Fall School in Germany (2016/2017)
In October 2016, students and lecturers from Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, traveled to Erfurt to engage in topical workshops, seminars and academic inputs on the topics “Media System and Journalism Cultures”, “Online Activism and Empowerment”, “Media Representation of Minorities” and “Communication, Pop Culture & Protest” within the framework of a 13-day Fall School at the University of Erfurt. The lectures were based on the research projects from the previous year (study trip to Bandung/Jakarta) and were internationally comparative and highly discursive in terms of a professional cultural dialogue. The students of the universities involved acquired not only a well-founded understanding of local, national and global communication processes by means of concrete questions of communication science (i.e. “actors, strategies and reasons of protest communication: Bandung vs./& Erfurt”). They also learned to question essentialist cultural and national understandings in science and everyday life. The exchanges on teaching curricula initiated in the previous year were continued this year, and already implemented teaching and funding formats were evaluated.
